Announcements
Shropshire Landscapes Exhibitions - Tuesday, November 03, 2009

An exhibition which runs from 18th December to mid-March 2010.

There are two venues for the exhibition: The Old Market Hall and the Theatre Severn.

The OMH will be a digital projection of photos from Shropshire's market towns: people, places and events. The images will be on view in the café/bar area. The Theatre Severn exhibition will be approximately 20-30 prints and digital projection of Shropshire landscapes and rural environment.

I want prints from each SPS members, not framed or mounted. I will mount the prints myself so that they work as a cohesive set. I suggest a size of approximately 12 x 16 inches. I also require any number of images (1024 x 768 px) for the digital projections. Send your digital entries to me at: programme@shropshire-photographic.org.uk

I will need all photos by end of November, so you have plenty of time to get them to me.

A Message from Our President

The Shropshire Photographic Society, grand of title purely due to its long and distinguished history, comprises a membership of hugely enthusiastic photographers. Some of us are professionals; most enjoy photography purely as a hobby. Some have many (many) years of experience; some are novices, but we all share a passion for the photographic image. The Society provides a focus for that passion where we can share, be inspired, and learn from each others’ experiences.

We have an active programme that runs throughout the season including photographic competitions, practical demonstrations, photography-related presentations, exhibitions and social events.

A highlight of our calendar is the Society trip which typically involves a significant number of our members spending a weekend away in a suitably photogenic location, inspiring each other to take great photographs and generally having a good time. Last season saw the members visit the Gower Peninsula in South Wales but previous trips have included the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.

We are a hugely friendly and inclusive group. Whatever your age, experience, equipment or technique (whether you’re shooting large-format black-and-white , regularly up to your elbows in darkroom chemicals, an avid Photoshop compositor, someone getting to grips with their first point-and-shoot camera or any number of alternatives) you’ll find us only too keen to help you get the maximum enjoyment out of your photography.

Come along and see us at the Gateway from September to May on Mondays at 7.30, there is no obligation to join and you will be warmly welcomed. The Gateway has excellent facilities including disabled access.

Shropshire Community Flickr Group

Over on Flickr, there's a rapidly growing group of Shropshire-based photographers who are exploiting the Internet to build a social community.

Here's how the group describes itself:

This is a group for people who possibly want to meet up and go out taking pictures in a relaxed and social gathering. To learn from each other and develop their own unique style and understanding. To take an active role in the group discussions and suggest places for possible meets and picture oppourtunities.

This is a great way to get to know other photographers in the area and I'd encourage all active photographers in the county to find out more. There's a good atmosphere and there are loads of really good pictures uploaded by the community members.

Membership of the group is available by invitation, only, so if you'd like to join, ask one of us for an introduction.
